Group Runs
These runs are not just for members. Everyone is welcome!
Mondays
Much like the venerable Wednesday night runs at Runners Market in Bearden, the Monday night runners and walkers meet at 5:30 pm at Runners Market in Farragut. All runners and walkers, regardless of ability level, are most welcome to participate. For more info, contact the shop at 671.4854.
Tuesdays
Track workouts take place on Tuesday afternoons at 5:30 pm at the University of Tennessee's Tom Black Track on Volunteer Boulevard on the UTK campus. Several groups workout concurrently, some are quite fast with others a bit slower. Workouts are planned for runners of all speeds. Coach Keith Gemeinhart orchestrates the workout activities. Info on workouts can be accessed through this blog.
Wednesdays
If you are visiting Knoxville, new to town, new to the club, or just looking to get more involved, this is the place to start! A festive and relaxed group get-together occurs every Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 pm at Runners Market, 4443 Kingston Pike Avenue, Western Plaza . During Daylight Savings Time, the run usually takes place on the Third Creek Greenway/Bike Trail. When darkness forces the courageous misfits off the trail, leaders generally head for the nearby Cherokee Boulevard/Sequoyah Hills neighborhood for a comfortably paced run of 5-6 miles. Afterward, cool beverages and good company are shared by participants.
Thursdays
The Health Shoppe in Suburban Center hosts a run at 6:00 pm every Thursday. The group run will take place on the Jean Teague Greenway below West Hills YMCA. Questions? Call Eddie Reymond at 693.4909.
Saturdays
Especially during the buildup to the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon, runners will assemble at various locations throughout the area to do long runs with a variety of pace and distance groups. Training leader is Elijah Shekinah.
Sundays
In response to several requests for organized weekend group runs, KTC offers a group run on Sunday mornings at 8:00 am. The group meets at the new Earth Fare adjacent to the Third Creek Greenway. This location offers plenty of parking and various distances to run along the Greenway and Neyland Dirve. Whether you're running only a few miles or training for a marathon, you're likely to find someone in this group to keep you company. For more information contact Dave Alderman at aldermands@charter.net
Occasional
Three or four times a year, a group of club members will assemble in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for a running tour of the Cades Cove Loop Road, an 11-mile jaunt.
Other social runs are scheduled throughout the year. Check the event calendar for upcoming events.
