KTC Beer Series is Back for 2024!
February 9, 2024A Note from Our Club President
February 22, 2024“Whoa, we’re halfway there, Whoa oh, livin’ on a…”
Wait a sec. We shouldn’t be “livin’ on a prayer” during our marathon build-up. At this point in training, we should be hitting our stride. We’re consistently completing a handful of midweek easy runs, potentially including some faster quality mileage, and strategically extending the time/distance of our weekly long run. We’re stacking miles on miles and marking a check in the box daily. We’re taking preventative actions to ward off injuries like strength training, stretching, yoga, foam rolling, massage, or physical therapy. We’re dialing in our nutrition and hydration to best support our current activity levels.
We’re not praying for a miracle. We’re taking action to give ourselves the best chance at success. If you’re sporadically training and hoping or praying for an outcome, you’re missing out. The process can be sweeter than the product. Pause, take a deep breath, and appreciate the moment. Find fulfillment in the daily grind. Do the work, day in and day out. Embrace the challenges that you encounter along the way. Each time you overcome an obstacle you’ll have a small victory to draw from on race day. When you go through a tough patch during your race (it’s inevitable that you’ll find yourself in a challenging headspace at some point) you’ll be able to reflect on all the victories you earned along the way. Think about the rainy long runs, the blizzard of ’24 workouts, the evening runs when you skipped happy hour, or the early morning runs when you just wanted to sleep in for an extra hour. All the work, sacrifice, and accomplishments that you’ve logged during the past months will support you both physically and mentally during your race.
If you’re not in the right headspace, consider asking a friend to help. An accountability partner goes a long way. Better yet, get a whole team of accountability partners by joining us in RunKNOX. We’d love to support you on your journey. You may be halfway there, but there’s still time to get the best out of yourself.
“Take my hand and we’ll make it, I swear…”
