The Post-Race Blues: What To Do When The Goal Is Over
May 4, 2026
When To Sign Up for Your Next Race (And When Not To)
May 17, 2026A wild night in the woods of South Knoxville was enjoyed by the nearly 300 people who registered to test themselves on the pitch dark (but dry!) trails of the UW/Helix Trail Systems at KTC’s Hann Jivin’ in the Dark race on Saturday, May 9. It was the 11th anniversary of the lightning lit skies of the Urban Wilderness’s initial night trail race in 2015, and the big crowd and delightful weather combined for a fabulous evening of trail running fun.
When the dust settled, local homebody Matt Paskov claimed another title, his first TTT win of 2026, racing across the line in 45:22. He was chased across the finish by Keith Crouch, who ran a quick 45:55. Teen speedster Cooper Bostrom was timed in 47:19 to earn third place. Fastest female was Eleanor McDonough, who sped around the six mile course in 58:53. She was followed by Deana Kelley (58:59) and Angela Sellers (59:19).
A fast and furious Kids Trail Mile was won by James Wright, who was timed in 8:40. Second and third place finishers were brothers Sutton (8:48) and Hudson (9:14) Snyder of Bastrop TX. Quickest girl finisher was Kavannah Addington (9:44), while Annie Brahlek and Mallory Pechauer dueled to the finish line, with Annie edging Mallory by a split second, 10:58 to 10:59.
A confusing turn at the top of Creek Loop led to several runners going off course and logging major bonus miles, some 10+, even 11+, but they were reassured upon finishing that they would not be charged for the extra mileage. Congratulations to the top runners, as well as to everyone else who finished these exciting races. Full results can be viewed here. Thanks to all the generous and active sponsors who contribute to making Treadin’ Trodden Trails the best trail running series in the Eastern US. All our sponsor logos appear toward the bottom of this email. We offer big thanks to all, and urge everyone to avail themselves of the fine products and services offered by each !!!
Another shoutout to all our volunteers, who teamed up to ensure that the race went on safely and happily. We can never thank you all enough. Those who have never volunteered at a race – especially a trail race – really need to pick out an event and join the crazy crew that puts on these marvelous events. You will realize that it’s just as much fun, maybe not cardiovascularly, but in a different and highly rewarding way.
We also were pleased to see several runners buying and rocking our new Treadin’ Trodden Trails logo hoodie that we offered for sale, along with fun and fashionable items, at the race registration site. Check out all our TTT merch at this link.
Don’t forget the TTT Grand Prix. We keep track of points that accrue during the season. Top three finishers in each of the four divisions—as long as they’re KTC members and volunteer at least twice at TTT races—will be awarded valuable prizes at the end of the year. Updated standings are available on the website.
Our next TTT race will be our annual tour of Sharps Ridge Memorial Park, the Sharps Ridge Scramble, on Saturday June 13. We’re offering four mile and 10k distance options, and both choices will be choice. This link takes you directly to the signup page.
