The Heart of Every Race: Why Volunteers Make KTC Events Possible
January 30, 2025First and foremost, I want to thank Eddie’s Health Shoppe. This race could not happen without you! You are a staple in our community and what you give back does not go unnoticed.
We woke up to steady rain for the race setup which made me concerned about the conditions our runners would face; we had a temperature of 40 degrees with a feel-like temperature of 38 degrees. Once our great registration crew got everyone checked in, the rain became a mere sprinkle.
We all enjoyed Evie Andrus playing the National Anthem on the fiddle and once the horn sounded the runners were off. I could immediately tell the cold temperature and a little drizzle was not going to stop anyone from having an amazing race. We had 259 Half Marathoners and 202 10k runners to complete the course. The largest team’s participation was C. John Run with 35 runners.
After finishing, racers were provided with a warm breakfast in the school cafeteria. Big shout out to the cafeteria staff at Rush Strong School; they were just as excited about race day as our runners.
Personal records were made as well as memories. The love and support this community shows to one another never ceases to amaze me. Jean Miller was our winner for the quilt. We presented the Knoxville Family Justice Center with that donation on Monday, February 17th.
I want to thank all of our sponsors. Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union helped provide swag bags and the Long Run and Runners Market helped me provide our wonderful volunteers with extra goodies. Qavah was onsite showing off endurance apparel and also graciously provided our overalls with gift cards. Tennessee Sports Medicine was on site stretching out runners, which they always appreciate.
As always, we have our wonderful course and finish line photographers providing everyone with race day memories. You can find T2 Design and Nick Morgan Photography race day photos on our RunSignUp page, under photos.
We could not do this without our volunteers. Always show them the love and support they give you. If you have not volunteered, why not? Volunteering is a rewarding experience and Knoxville Track Club will give you a discount code for another race. We have Whitestone 30k/12k road and trail race coming up March 8th. You can use the same RunSignUp page as the runners, just select Volunteer and choose what option is best for you.
Thank you to the Knoxville Track Club for giving us the opportunity to show our love for this community. Thank you, athletes, for a day we will never forget. We would love any feedback you want to share with us.
Until next year, remember to run the mile you are in.
