Treadin’ Trodden Trails Grand Prix

Overview

Although TTT has always maintained a no-frills approach to trail racing, in 2009 we began a Grand Prix type points system to reward top trail runners. Unlike road races, which offer age group awards ad nauseum, sometimes spurring hypercompetitiveness and generating significant waste, we keep things simple, separating only men from women and masters runners from younger participants. Thus the four categores, OM, OF, MM, and MF were born. Postseason awards were presented to top runners in each of those four categories, including fleece throws, hoodies, logo pint glasses, crew sweatshirts, and other simple but well-received awards.

Until the 2018 season, we always offered points to only the longer option races, except for those events where even the short options were significant, like Norris and various trail marathons over the years. We were, however, often beseeched by requests to offer points for the shorter races, as well, and for 2018 have acceded to these requests. In keeping with the commensurate effort and times required of those doing the long races vs. short races, we decided to offer short race runners half value points, i.e., instead of the 100 points awarded to the first place finisher in a given category, we award 50, and so on down the line.
