From time to time, the opportunity arises for the club and its members to give back to our community via special projects.
Legacy Parks Foundation
Legacy Parks Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which works to assure that our community enjoys exceptional recreational opportunities, natural beauty and open spaces, and that those assets exist for generations to come. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the services and amenities afforded by government funding and those that allow us to take full advantage of the incredible natural resources of our region.
Knoxville Track & Field Club is proud to support Legacy Parks Foundation. In August 2012, the Marj McClean trail was opened as part of the South Loop of the Urban Wilderness Corridor. The 1,000-acre Knoxville Urban Wilderness Corridor along Knoxville’s downtown waterfront contains ten parks, nearly twenty miles, of recreational trails, three civil war forts, historic settlement sites, and diverse ecological features and recreational amenities. The corridor links the existing assets and the future acquired properties into an incredible historical, recreational, cultural, and environmental experience.

Mileage Markers
The KTC’s community service in 2010-2011 was highlighted by our provision of funds and labor for placement of greenway mileage markers on Sequoyah/Cherokee Blvd., Third Creek, Neyland Drive and James White Greenways. Former KTC Board member Bob Barber coordinated this project and with a crew of dedicated volunteers provided the manpower to get the job done.
Charity Races
KTC provides finish line, race management, and volunteers for the many charity races that take place in East Tennessee throughout the year for a nominal fee. You can help KTC help the community by volunteering for events that support a cause you believe in.
Trail-Friendly Causes
Generated by the club’s Treadin’ Trodden Trails Offroad Running Series, KTC has provided substantial donations to trail-friendly causes, including the Appalachian Mountain Bike Club, Legacy Parks Foundation, Friends of Haw Ridge, Ijams Nature Center, Clinch Valley Trail Alliance, The Friends of Panther Creek State Park, and Friends of Norris Dam State Park.
