DESCRIPTION

Happy 40th Anniversary to the World’s Fair! Were you aware that Expo was originally started in in 1978 ahead of the World’s Fair to celebrate the world coming to town? So, this year is special! 40th Anniversary of the World’s Fair, 45th running of Expo and most exciting, 60th anniversary of the Knoxville Track Club. To celebrate, KTC, along with Visit Knoxville, City of Knoxville and Knox County, we are offering a special edition of a half marathon with Expo this year.

EXPO 10K/5K is more than a race: It is Knoxville’s oldest and most beloved community running event. 2022 will mark the 45th running of this annual event. The expo is truly a tradition. It is the only race that celebrates the family by having mother/son, mother/daughter, father/son, father/daughter, wife/husband, and three generations categories.

Unable to attend race day or would be more comfortable running on your own? New for this year we have added a virtual option. You may sign up to support the club and this event and run 5k or 10k anywhere you would like.

Date, Time, & Place: Saturday May 28th, 2022. This year we will kick off with a kids mile run at 7:00am, while the 5k and 10k begin at 7:30am. Please note: start times are subject to change. Please confirm when race week communication is sent out.

Participants must be able to finish the 10K in one hour and forty minutes after the last runner starts. 10K course closes at 9:15

The half runs Clinch Ave to 16th St, to Volunteer Blvd, through UT Campus, to Joe Johnson and picks up the 3rd Creek greenway on the ag campus behind Publix, heads west on greenway and loops around RecSports Complex and return to pick up Neyland Greenway, doing a small out and back pass Volunteer Landing and return on the greenway connector to World’s Fair Park.

KTC Safety Policy: KTC’s mission is to encourage lifelong physical well-being through running and walking. That is accomplished through a variety of events and programming. The Knoxville Track Club puts the safety of its participants, spectators, staff and volunteers first. Dangerous weather conditions pose a unique challenge to an event of any size, distance or location. Therefore, KTC has adopted the following Inclement Weather Policy:

Weather forecasts will be monitored prior to the event, with special attention placed on the possibility of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, high winds, extreme temperatures and humidity. If necessary, athletes will be made aware of these conditions on Knoxville Track Club’s website (www.ktc.org), as well as through other available means of communication such as e-mail, Twitter, Facebook and public address announcements.

The Executive Director and Race Director in consultation, when available, with law enforcement, fire/EMS, other medical officers and other officials, will monitor the weather and make a decision if any action will be taken to modify the race. Possible changes include: Altering the start time, altering the course, or in extreme situations cancellation of the event. Visible lightning occurring within 30 minutes of the scheduled start will cause the race to be postponed for a minimum of 30 minutes. Additional sightings will continue to delay the race in 30-minute increments up to a maximum of 3 delays.

Race personnel reserve the right to delay, cancel, or suspend the race or modify the course due to inclement weather. As stated on registration and race pages, there are no refunds or transfers. Participants must abandon the race if ordered to do so by the race personnel, medical staff, fire/paramedics or police personnel
